CJ&L Founder Spotlight: Christy Jenkins
We have an amazing team here at CJ&L that we become more proud of every day. We’re lucky enough to be spearheaded by our incredible founders, who have led our group to be one of the most trusted and successful real estate firms in the Athens-Clarke County area. One of these accomplished leaders is Athens’ own Christy Jenkins. Read on to find out more about how Christy got her start in real estate and how she has grown her career with the establishment of CJ&L.
Christy was raised in Athens and attended Georgia State University, where she earned her BBA in Finance. She began her real estate career in 2000, selling and managing properties in south Georgia. Her decision to pursue real estate was an easy one. It offered her the flexibility and opportunity to build a strong business, serve her community and work directly with people on a daily basis.
As an Athens native, Christy enjoys working in the town where she grew up and eventually raised her own family. Although the familiarity of Athens is always welcome, she also appreciates the ever-changing dynamic of the community. She believes working in a community of young people challenges one to constantly improve, allowing no room for mediocrity.
Spending many years of both her childhood and her adult life in Athens has afforded Christy a deep understanding of the community, the economy and the real estate market. Working in both property management and real estate informs her of the market, investment opportunities, cash flow analysis and long-term appreciation in a pragmatic way that one cannot attain without hands-on experience.
In 2005, Christy joined together with Sarah Ellis and Stephanie Leathers to open Chastain Jenkins and Leathers, now known as CJ&L Real Estate. While continuing to represent both sellers and buyers in real estate, Christy also oversees the property management division of the company. Representing clients in the purchase of investment properties helps her gain a better understanding of the rapidly changing market. She works hard to stay on the front of trends in both the rental and sales arenas of the Athens market.
Christy is a firm believer in engaging with the community and working collaboratively. She is an Alum of Lead Athens and served as a founding member of the Athens Farmers Market Board. She also supports The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, The Salvation Army, and The Athens Community Council on Aging. In 2010, Christy was awarded The Good Neighbor Award by both the Athens Association of Realtors and the Georgia Association of Realtors. She also served as a member of The Athens Women in Business, The Board of Directors of the Athens Association of Realtors, The Athens Clarke County Mentor Program, and the Jeanette Rankin Foundation.
When Christy is not working, she loves to spend time with her family and enjoy walks through UGA’s beautiful campus. She also loves to spend time with her three children, swimming, or mountain biking with her husband.
